Agricultural University of Iceland
AUI has a long history in agricultural and environmental research and development, e.g. in the fields of cultivation, land use and soil science. Agricultural management of cultivated fields, including fertilization and harvest optimization, nutrient cycling and losses have been studied for many years by AUI. This experience will be utilised especially when developing tools for runoff water management in Arctic Areas. However, in Iceland data on nutrient input of agricultural runoff to freshwater system is lacking, WaterPro will providae valuable information on these inputs and will link directly to the ongoing implementation of the Water Framework Directive in Iceland. AUI will have a specific pilot site, which will offer demonstration of WaterPro innovative practices and increase preparedness of authorities and local communities. AUI will take actively part in dissemination and connecting own networks to the knowledge transfer and communication platform.
